Welcome!
Welcome to Rock Creek High School
On behalf of the Rock Creek High School faculty and staff, welcome to “The Rock”! We
strive to build positive relationships and create memorable experiences with our entire
Rock Creek family. Each and every day, we look forward to serving our students, parents,
and patrons of the Rock Creek District.
Rock Creek High School is a rural, mid-sized (4A) High School (grades 7-12) serving the
St. George and Westmoreland communities as well as surrounding agricultural, rural, and
suburban development areas. Rock Creek High School and the communities of St.
George and Westmoreland are all located within convenient driving distance of
Manhattan and Wamego.
Rock Creek High School strives to integrate technology throughout daily programming in
all curricular areas. Our students benefit from a one-to-one Chromebook initiative (since
Fall 2020) which grew out of an original one-to-one iPad initiative (Piloted 2014). Our High
School Journalism, Digital Multi-Media, and Design Technology classes have constructed
and utilize an on-site studio for the purpose of enhancing the already existing Rock Creek
Cable Channel 141 (in cooperation with WTC Cable). Students interested in multi-media
projects also benefit from our fellowship with “Back Roads Broadcasting” as they assist in
the production of live video streaming at many school events.
Rock Creek consistently prepares and graduates (95% graduation rate) high performing,
award winning students who are both career and college ready. Previously named as a
National Blue Ribbon School and ranked as high as the #1 Kansas High School (360
public high schools 1A-6A) by U.S. News and World Report, RCHS currently ranks as the
#12 Public High School in Kansas and #1 in the Manhattan, KS Metro Area. A unique and
required Senior Exit Project which culminates a student’s four years of rigorous and
relevant experiences into a final project and presentation is a time-tested tradition of the
Rock Creek educational experience. The 2019 addition of a campus Industrial Technology
facility and programming has also aided us in continuing to work toward meeting the
needs of all Rock Creek students and career paths.
Programming that focuses on preparing our students for all aspects of life includes
outstanding programming in the arts (band, choir, theater, and the visual arts). Rock
Creek also boasts consistently state ranked and recognized Debate, Forensics and
Scholar’s Bowl programs, some which have also competed at the national level. Well
organized and competitive academic clubs and organizations such as FFA, FBLA ,FCCLA, Journalism/Yearbook, Scholars Bowl, and Robotics enhance an already rigorous
and relevant curriculum. Our academic coaches and sponsors are extremely dedicated to
both their programs and the students they serve.
Rock Creek athletics are led by a team of coaches that focus on daily improvement,
sportsmanship, fitness, and team play. Our coaches and programs prepare our young
athletes for both the joys and challenges in life after high school. As a member of the
perennially competitive Mid-East League, Rock Creek students and athletes are honored
to compete against state-level athletic programs on a weekly basis in the areas of Cross
Country, Football, Volleyball, Basketball, Wrestling, Baseball, Softball, and Track & Field.
Supporting all of our athletic programs is a year-round Strength and Conditioning program
focusing on health, wellness, strength, and conditioning. Workouts take place in our
modern and dedicated Strength and Conditioning facility. Each year our student
athletes experience countless personal and team successes in athletics, including regular
appearances at KSHSAA state level events.
Lastly, Rock Creek High School is proud of our dedicated and supportive faculty and
staff. We will continually strive to work with our students regarding their individual
educational needs. Our faculty and staff look forward to teaming with you, our students,
parents, and community in creating the best high school experience possible for our
students here at “The Rock”!
Sincerely,
Eric B. Koppes
