1999 Rock Creek High School graduate Dr. Adam Walker helped the USD #323 faculty and staff ring in the new school year last Friday at district in-service. Dr. Walker was recently named President and CEO of the Kansas State University Alumni Association.
While at Rock Creek, Adam was class salutatorian, participated in FFA, FBLA, and was a National Honor Society member. He was a four year letterman in football and track. He was an all-conference lineman and won both the discus and shot put league titles his sophomore, junior, and senior years. He is still the school record holder in the shot put.
After Rock Creek, Adam made his mark at Kansas State University, where he became an academic All-American for KSU track and field. A 2004 graduate in Kinesiology, Adam was the runner-up in the Big 12 weight throw his senior year. RC strength coach Mark Oberkrom was his college strength coach at that time. He received his masters from KSU in 2009 while working for KSU admissions. He was then in athletics at the University of Central Florida, and athletics and faculty at Memphis University. While at Memphis he completed his doctoral degree in higher education. His dissertation, entitled Intercollegiate Athletics Success and the Financial Impact on Universities, was published in the Wall Street Journal.
Dr. Walker reminisced about his time at Rock Creek, and spoke of the importance of teachers and coaches in his life. He then related his journey to today, and how important each person in the room is to young students. He was thankful to be returning "home," both to Rock Creek and Kansas State University.
